I see a lot of folks online asking if Erie has any rail trails. Well the short answer is no. We don't. But we do have the Bayfront Bikeway, and it's pretty dang close to a rail trail. It's completely paved, but not as flat as most rail trails are. Now don't get me wrong, the section that follows Presque Isle Bay is pretty dang flat - but the part that leads to Penn State Behrend is a bit of an uphill. It makes for a very fun, easy descent on the way back though.
I took the long way home from work the other day to take the Bikeway past some of Erie's industrial heritage, and get a spring look at the waterfront. Here you can see the section I rode to get home.
